This will be the best trek you do all year.
Sinhagad — once known as Kondhana — is one of the most storied forts in the Sahyadris. It's famous above all for the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670, when Maratha general Tanaji Malusare scaled its sheer cliffs by night to recapture it from the Mughals, losing his life in the process. The victory came at such a cost that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is said to have remarked, "the fort is won, but the lion is lost." Today it's one of the most-loved treks near Pune, with sweeping Sahyadri views, historic gates and bastions, and the famous hot kanda bhaji at the top.
